Review – The Deal

the deal

Title: The Deal

Series: Off-Campus #1

Author: Elle Kennedy

Rating:
4 stars

I’ve had my hungering little eyes on this book for a while now and it wasn’t until recently, where I read through a few reviews on Goodreads, all amazing and raving, that I decided that I might just have to buy this one. So I went on iBooks and downloaded it and started reading immediately. And I finished it the next day.

Hannah Wells’ past has made her hesitant and cautious when it comes to sex and seduction, which is why, when she finds someone who turns her on, she’ll need help to step out of her comfort zone and make him take notice… but in order for that to happen, she has to tutor the annoying, childish and cocky captain of the hockey team in exchange for a pretend date to get her ready (yeah we all know how that one goes).

The only thing Garrett Graham has ever wanted is to play professional hockey after graduating college, but by the looks of his GPA, that won’t happen. He needs help and that comes in the form of a sarcastic girl, but at this point, he’ll take what he can get.
But when one unexpected kiss leads to the wildest sex either of them have ever had, it doesn’t take long for Garrett to realize that pretend isn’t going to cut it. Now he just has to convince Hannah that the man she wants is him and not the guy she’s been pursuing.

I’m such a sucker for these types of books and more so when they are set in college and not high school, as the topics are usually more mature (yes I’m referring to all the sex) and I just enjoy reading about that a lot more. But then again I’ve grown older myself so it should be a natural transition.

The Deal was an easy read, yet you wanted to take it slow and savour the scenes that left you almost gasping for breath.

I really enjoyed both the main characters, Hannah and Garrett. There was a lot more than met the eye with both of them and I liked that they had more depth than you usually see with such stories.

I was surprised by how dark some of the themes were (this was some serious shit) and how the story took a turn, but in a way it was refreshing and made it even more addicting and not as predictable as you would have initially thought it to be.

Garrett is your classic “bad boy” on campus who sleeps around a lot, but has a lot of other redeeming qualities that makes up for it.

Hannah grows a lot through this book and the things that once stood in the way of her being truly herself slowly gets broken down as she spends more and more time with Garrett.

I won’t get into details, even the steamy ones, because I don’t want to spoil what great book this really is.

So..

Would I recommend this book?
Absolutely!

To whom?

The the more mature reader as there are a lot of sex involved, but also heavier topics like rape and abuse.
